Fantasy & Crime Reviews

We love our romance... but sometimes nothing beats a great Fantasy or a juicy crime (can you say "shirtless Jack Reacher" anyone?).

Author Bio:

http://www.keriarthur.com

Keri Arthur is a Melbourne, Australia writer who writes urban paranormal books with tough capable women taking on the world.

Her books have received many nominations and prizes including a nomination in the Best Contemporary Paranormal category of the Romantic Times Reviewers Choice Awards, received a ‘perfect 10’ from Romance Reviews Today, as well as being nominated for Best Shapeshifter in PNR’s PEARL Awards.

In her own words Keri says: " Well, I've always loved books filled with action, be they fantasy, horror or mystery. What used to annoy me, though, was the lack of capable female stars in many of these books. I mean, come on, not all of us females trip over our feet while running away from the big bad. Some of us would actually grab the nearest weapon and bop them over the head with it. So that's what I wrote--strong, capable women, first in fantasy novels and then in what is now called paranormal romance. .... I think I wrote my first paranormal romance close to 16 years ago, and I've been switching between that and urban fantasy ever since. " Keri Arthur is a dessert and functions chef by trade and lives in Melbourne with her husband and daughter.

Fangs Author Review:

Keri Arthur is the author of a range of series that all work within an urban fantasy/paranormal romance world. Each series is quite distinctive, yet Keri Arthur's style always comes through - she has a very natural dialogue and an inventive, deft touch with her characters and plots.

She also writes quite lusty main characters!  Think James Bond with a bra - just as tough, just as sexy, although they really can't be bothered with the suave and charming bit!.  Her Riley Jensen is one of the genre's leading characters.  She's tough,  she's highly sexed (particularly when the moon is full), but she is also conflicted about who she is and how others see her.  Riley Jensen has an emotional depth that makes a reader connect to her through the thriller ride she's on.

In comparison in the Ripple Creek series, Keri Arthur gives us less James Bond and as a result her heroines are less physically tough and more approachable.  The toughest balancing act for Keri Arthur here seems to be that of the dominant/submissive element that is natural for animals, and therefore werewolves, but sometimes uncomfortable when dealing with people.

Regardless of the topic and characters, Keri Arthur's writing is a joy to read.  She gives us intelligent, well written prose and complex characters and plots.  She's an author where you simply buy every book she releases.
