Well worth reading for the light amusement value, but like Austen’s books, there are some great one-liners, some great observations, all buried in prose that can find itself a tad monotonous and bogged down. 

The opening chapters left me quite confused as to who was who and what was happening, with no introduction to either characters, their relationship to each other or a situation overview.

Sadly I haven't read the first in the series, so have to assume I have missed out on the significant "get to know your character" stage, as there wasn't a lot of development going on in this story.  I found the characters to be lacking in personality, and we just had so many characters standing around doing nothing. The basic story flow was good, and the plot has so much potential, but I defiantly think you do need to read the first book in order to appreciate the characters and form that attachment.

As a commentary on romance novels Ms Mulleny gets some excellent quips to counter the ‘popular’ theories floating around that romance novels ruin woman.

Do you think that we do not know the difference between fact and fiction, James? That all we read in novels is but a fantasy of the life we lead, and we such poor creatures we cannot tell the difference"

And, she added, mine don't contain romantic silliness. Silliness possibly. Romance, possibly. But the two together? Impossible.

Overall, it's light and fun, probably far better if read in sequence, maybe not a reread, but certainly one I would happily recommend if you need a smile on the way to work, but definitely try reading in order.
