Product Information
The first book in an extraordinary new urban fantasy series based in a Melbourne populated with beautifully imagined fairies. Perfect for fans of Laurell K Hamilton and Karen Marie Moning!

Welcome to a secret world hidden behind shadowy fairy glamour, where thieving sprites rob you blind, beautiful banshees mesmerise you with their song, big green trolls kick heads at King St nightclubs and sadistic vampire Mafiosi rule the Carlton streets. Here life as a soul-sucking succubus rarely involves lacy lingerie, hot guys or great sex. Instead, Jade must spend her nights seducing gangsters and murderers, or simpering as a trophy girl for hell's minions. Her quest for freedom brings her face to face with Rajah, a 400-year-old incubus who's been pitted against her.

Rajah's raw sensuality makes him both a formidable adversary and an irresistible lover. But when she discovers the key to breaking her bonds, she faces the ultimate choice: win her freedom and doom Rajah to a lifetime of servitude, or spend eternity in hell so Rajah can escape?

Walt Disney must be spinning in his grave.  The faries in Erica Hayes debut novel Shadowfae are nothing like Tinkerbell.  Instead they’re amoral, dangerous and spawn a range of creatures that will make you shudder with horror. In this world of fey, demons and vampires the soul-sucking succubus Jade in is a 1,000 year thrall to a demon, Kade, destined to have sex with anyone Kade commands and take their souls for hell.

The incubus Rajah has found a way to take his freedom ... find and devour four special souls. Unfortunately one of the souls he needs will also be the key to Jade’s freedom. As they are drawn together the question of whether they can betray the other for their own freedom, or sacrifice themselves for the other, provides a tension that permeates throughout the book.

The creatures involved and the sex is very nasty and I can imagine many people not making it past the first chapter … believe me the opening scenes are quite shocking. In fact the sex scenes throughout the book are graphic and often horrifying. And anytime you have to spend time with Dante get ready for a very, very nasty vampire.

However with any horror movie or book, there’s a certain tolerance that builds up and that’s so for Shadowfae. The reason why this book succeeds is that the characters and their motivations are so well developed, and their desire for freedom from the degradations and humiliations of their existence so heartfelt, that you can’t help but get caught up in Rajah and Jade’s desperate fight for freedom.

This is an amazing book.  Erica Hayes has been very courageous in writing such a confronting plot with no easy-out clause for squeamish readers. The writing flows beautifully and the descriptions are vibrant.

This isn’t a book for everyone. However if you like dark Urban Fantasy and have a tolerance for horror then take this trip into a Melbourne you’ll never forget.
