Jenna Black has done it again! Speak of the Devil is a sensational story in the Morgan Kinglsey exorcist series. Although part of the series, this is as good as the first book, and the story is written in such a way that you could possibly even read it as a standalone (you’d miss a heck of a lot, but it would still be enjoyable). Morgan finally has that epiphany that we’ve all been waiting three books for her to have (in regards to her relationship with Brian), Raphael develops hidden depths, Andrew stops being a complete pratt, and we have a couple of new developments with Saul. Dom is, of course, as delightful and desirable as every (spot MY favourite character!). This is probably the most easy going in the series so far, not a huge amount of ‘ick’, blood, gore, horror, or even any major hanky-panky... well, not really. Yet Speak of the Devil still manages to deliver some groovy twists, and develop on the plot to remove Lugh from the throne. There are also a few questions left unanswered that can carry on through to the next instalment (Devil’s Playground – due for release in Australia in May 2010). I am dying for more development in Raphael, is he becoming the character I most want to hear about. I love Dom, but I think he’s developed happily, but Raphael is just still such a mystery. I know, I know, I’ve got a thing for the bad boys, well, the heart of gold bad boys at least, so I just so want to see which way Raphael goes. Me thinks we still have several more books to come in this series, as it doesn’t look like Jenna Black is slowing up the plot any time soon, and it just isn’t anywhere near getting boring! If you haven’t started this series yet, you have just got to give it a go. This is most definitely a keeper series for any lover of Urban Fantasy. |
