Oh how I love the Breed series by Lora Leigh! And, Lion’s Heat, the latest in this amazing series is just as heart rending, hot and sexy as any of the other books. Jonas Wyatt, head of the Bureau of Breed Affairs, has been in most books in the series an a cold and manipulative leader, willing to just about anything to further the breed cause and give the Breeds a future. He has been a character I’ve disliked the entire series. But now Lora Leigh has given him his own books. Not only that she’s made me fall completely in love with this tough, driven leader, always alone and always aware of his isolation. This book has all the elements we love about Lora Leigh’s Breed books – we have the political threats, spies, genetic manipulation, mating heat, barbs (c’mon you know what I mean - OMG!)and above all else a complete dedication towards your mate. Unfortunately Rachel isn’t as strong a character as she could have been. There was amazing potential for her – the emotionally contained, super smart, new mother, but we were left without knowing what it was in her background that led her to close her emotions down and all too often her intelligence was reduced to simple organization. It was almost as if being a new mother defined her role in the book, giving her the justification for defending her daughter Amber vehemently, panicking when her daughter was under threat and ‘melting’ at Jonas’ tenderness towards the three month old. This was a serious missed opportunity. However there were more than enough elements that worked, particularly the cameos from so many of our favourite characters from other books! |
