Lily Yu and Rule Turner live a very complicated life! When we think of mixed marriages – they’re about to embark on a doozy! Lily is an American Chinese FBI agent with an overbearing mother and dominant grandmother. Her family is strongly matriarchical and so Lily is well used to exercising her authority when she comes across colleagues or criminals who see her as a vulnerable woman.

Lily IS NOT some meek little thing! She’s a strong FBI agent with the ability of a touch sensitive and is willing to face down murderers and put criminals away. She’s also the Chosen, the mate of the werewolf Nokolai clan’s Lu Nuncio, Rule Turner. And Rule is strong, politically experienced, loyal and stubborn. They've also had to face amazing challenges over the course of the series, but at times it seems that the greatest challenge comes at the family level.

Lily’s human, Rule is werewolf. Her family can accept that. But Lily is Chinese and Rule is white American. Oops.

After a few detours to allow secondary characters to have their own stories told, in Mortal Sins we’re firmly back with Lily and Rule as they track down a serial murder while also dealing with a custody hearing over Rule’s son. I absolutely love the way that Eileen Wilks is able to create a deeply complex FBI thriller while weaving in delectably believable family elements!

The mystery in this crime thriller is fascinating and will keep you trying to solve who the culprit is right until the end. And while I’m a sucker for romance and nookie, it’s okay that this wasn’t so much in evidence in Mortal Sins, because I’m already in love with Rule!
