Michelle Rowen never fails to deliver delightful characters, doses of humour and fun and clever plots – and once again with The Demon in Me she has delivered in spades! Eden Riley has enough going on as a part owner of a PI firm and a reluctant psychic called in to help the police solve a serial killer crime … she didn’t need to suddenly find a demon possessing her.
This sounds like the start of a wonderfully light romp doesn’t it? However the real skill Michelle Rowen shows is in weaving her wry take on everyday life with the darker elements in this story, with the result being a far more complex book than expected. The problem is that Eden has a demon inside her and exorcists stalking her to rid her of evil. At the same time she has the power to destroy Darrak if she allows him to be exorcised. And if she doesn’t get rid of him within a year she’ll die from the possession. There’s a lovely balance of the growing relationship between Eden and Darrak and their mistrust of one another that isn’t resolved too quickly. So we have a delightful romantic comedy with a shivery sense of threat and danger pervading the pages. Witty dialogue, delicious men, quirky social situations ... ahhhh, Michelle Rowen has delivered another treat!! |
