Michelle Rowen has just made it onto my ‘top ten’ list of great light-hearted writers with Lady & the Vamp. This is Quinn & Janie Parkers story. It is well told, and just downright enjoyable to read. Like the other books in the Immortality Bites series, this is pretty light reading, with a nice romantic jaunt through the world of nasty vampire hunters, quirky werewolves and hunky vampires. Michelle Rowen is pretty darn good at throwing in the nicest plot twists, you know they’re coming, but they still take you by surprise when they get here. However, the main reason I really like this book – it wasn’t about Thierry (I just hate the name, sorry Michelle!) or Sarah (I just need a break from the whining bubble-headiness). Michael Quinn is just such a complex character, who I really liked from book 1 (Bitten and Smitten), so I am really glad to see him back. Particularly when paired with Janie Parker, things are just bound to get interesting in the world of Immortality Bites! The whole book turns into a bit of a scavenger hunt, searching for the lost grail (or the lost eye of radish in this case), so the opportunities for death, danger and destruction abound, and Michelle Rowen doesn’t miss an opportunity when given to her! Although not a complete giggle fest, Lady & the Vamp is just a nice read that will warm your cotton stocks. Like the rest of the books in this series, this is another where my instructions are to ‘curl up with a cup of hot-chocolate, in your fluffy dressing gown and enjoy’. |
