Yes yes, we all know that I love Michelle Rowen’s writing! I’ve been dying to jump into her first YA book Demon Princess: Reign or Shine – but I was trying to hold out until book two came out. 

But I caved!  I just couldn’t wait any longer! That bright blue cover grinned at me constantly, it taunted me, it beckoned me closer until I weakened. Yes temptation was the winner and I completely gave in, grabbed the book and barely stirred until I had it read!

What a bright, sparkling joy this book was. Sure, we’re talking about demons, but a demon teenager just finding out about her heritage and powers while fitting in at a new high school and being asked to the school’s Winter Formal! At the same time this is going on, Nikki is starting to manifest her powers, her previously unknown father demands to see her, she’s being stalked by a would-be killer and she can’t help but like Michael, her father’s emissary.

Nikki’s life is a mess - an absolutely delightful mess. Thankfully Michelle Rowen plays the characters and the plot with a straight bat. She allows the story to unfold without making this into a comedy. Instead this is the story of difficult situations and difficult choices made in the midst of extraordinary events - but all presented with a light touch and peppered with humour.

This is a lovely, well written book!

But of course Michelle Rowen is still a complete fiend and I find it hard to forgive her. I’ve finished and loved Demon Princess: Reign or Shine and I’ve got to wait until May 25th before book two, Reign Check, is released!

Grrrrrr! I tell her and tell her to write faster – but does she listen? Does she care? She says she’s typing her fingers to nubs for us … but the proof is in the book, sister! Give me Reign Check or I’m coming to get you!
