Frostbite is the second book in the Vampire Academy series, following the life of a half-human, half-vampire Rose. The first book was pretty good once you got into it and I had high hopes for the second book, Frostbite, but it turned out to be a huge let-down. One of the main things that bugged me in this book was that when we had first met Rose she was kind of rebellious and exciting and I had hoped that the same Rose would be present in this book as well, but, if anything, she came off as whiney and needy. It was good seeing her interact with other people excluding her best-friend Lissa and crush Dimitri, but it was hard to enjoy those interactions when Dimitri was brought up every second paragraph. I understand he plays a big role in the book, but it would be nice to have a break from him, I’m starting to loathe him. Excluding Rose, I loved all the other characters. It was nice seeing Rose's relationship with her mother and seeing something form out of it. I liked getting a more in depth look into their complicated relationship and it was good seeing her mother bring out a different side in Rose. One that’s vulnerable and sensitive, but not too sensitive. The flow in this book was really good, the characters went well with the story and it all blended into one. It was simple and easy to follow, but, the story-line was horrible. Not only did the book lack anything exciting and creative, but it was just so boring. For a book that started off so well, I can’t help but wonder how this one went so wrong. It was pretty flat-line until the very end of the story and only then did it start to pick-up in pace, but by then it was already too late. The story had been ruined. Although I didn’t like this book, I am still very keen to read the rest of the books. I am hoping the next book is a little more interesting and worth the read. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to follow the series, but I can’t make any promises it will be up to your expectations. |
