My Soul To Take is a good book, but not something I personally would rave about. Although it has a good storyline and is unique, it is also quite blunt and rushed. I found that with Kaylee, the main character, she was quick to believe whatever she was told. There was no questions, no denial, not even a single "Prove it". It drowned down my interest in the book. It could've had a lot of potential if it weren't for that one problem. With only a few main characters I found it hard to have a favourite one. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the character Tod, though; a young reaper who likes to make things more difficult than they should be. Tod made things a little more interesting and I would have loved to read more of him. He had a certain air of mystery. Not too much, but just enough that I was curious to see how he, mainly, would turn out in the end. My Soul To Take is a book I'd recommend to basically any age group; except for maybe 11-. It is well written and has a lot of interesting traits. I just wish it could've been less rushed. |

My Soul to Take is full of twists and turns, all well written with an incredible emotional intensity that will having you reaching for the tissues in no time! This is the sort of teen paranormal that makes the cross over into the world of adult fiction. The plot is light enough to fit well into the young adult fiction market (no over the top gruesomeness and no scorching heat), but written with a maturity and emotional commitment that will appeal to adult readers looking for a lighter read. There is a wonderful sense of realism about the characters and their interaction with each other, and Rachel Vincent has captured the frustrations of been a teen, without having the characters become whining brats I want to send off to detention! Even the parental interaction is superbly written. There is a good balance between action and breathing space, although things were a little confusing for a moment as we had the very clever plot start to unfold, but otherwise this is just a wonderful page turner that is a perfect read to curl up with. Get your comfie chair ready, you won’t be moving until it’s finished. |
