You need to know exactly what you’re in for when you read a Jill Kismet story. If you’re prepared for relentless action, violence and tragedy and demonic attacks then you’ll be able to deal with these and appreciate the wonderful character of Jill Kismet and the fine writing in this series. Heaven’s Spite is the second to last book in this series and really should be considered part one of the ending (you know, the dark before the dawn bit and yes, this is DARK) with Angel Town the conclusion. I think it would be better to hold off on reading Heaven’s Spite until Angel Town is out, just so you don’t throw the book across the room at the cliffhanger ending, but if you can’t bear to wait, simply be prepared for the adrenaline to build and build and … then … sorry, can’t tell you! If you want a relaxing read – look elsewhere! The pace is so frantic and Jill’s timeframe for hunting down demons and traders so short that I had a case of burnout halfway through the book and needed to put it aside and have a strong cup of tea and a lie down. Then of course braced myself and plunged back into this demonic-noir thriller. Because this is a compelling story of a desperate woman battling evil and it’s an incredibly gripping book. |
