Product Information

New releases from the Pocket Books/Juno collaboration! Exciting urban fantasy debut mixes a modern-day witch with a rock'n'roll werewolf boyfriend, pitted against a powerful vampire in a novel about friendship and loyalty.

Persephone Alcmedi thinks life is getting difficult when several newspapers drop her were-friendly syndicated column and her chain-smoking Nana, kicked out of the nursing home, moves in. But when her friend Lorrie is murdered and Seph is hired by the high priestess of a big-city coven to destroy the killer— a powerful vampire— life gets really complicated. Accepting responsibility for Lorrie’s orphaned daughter and juggling a budding romance with rock’n’roller werewolf Johnny doesn’t make things any easier. Seph, guided by the Tarot, must scrutinise friendships, secrets, loyalties and her own morality as she seeks a spell to set things right.

Ali 2009-12-23

Vicious Circle has got to be one of the best witchcraft stories I’ve read, and manages to create a really great story without the need to dive into the darkest pits. This is probably light enough to make it into teen paranormal, but the story is written with sophistication and attention to detail that makes it a total joy to read – even through the necessary icky bits.

We’ve got a hereditary witch (Persephone – and I had to keep saying her name out loud, it is per-seff-ON-ee, not per-see-phone, I always forget that one when I see it in print), her nana (who has secrets not yet revealed), hunky werewolves trying to be normal, evil vampires and an orphaned little girl.

You can see how this might come together to make a good story?

The side plot of the original curse that created vampires and werewolves is enough to have made me go “hmm... is he, is she, who’s that” all the way through the book. It really adds a nice underlying tension to the whole plot.

Linda Robertson has also created some of the most beautiful and simplest Wiccan rituals I’ve seen. I’ll assume she’s done her homework, as other than the clockwise thing (which is just a southern hemisphere hang-up), everything was quite feasible, in an urban fantasy way.

With an easy to read writing style, really likable characters, a believable plot and lashings of mythology and magic, this is easily gearing up to make it to my favourite series list.

Sorry Linda – you’ve got of pressure for book # 2 “Hallowed Circle”, book one was just too good!
