Win Shadowfae by Erica Hayes!

Friday, October 1st, 2010

I’m sure most of you know that book three in Erica HayesShadowfae Chronicles series “Poison Kissed” has just been released. However, rumour has it that there are actually people in this world that HAVEN’T yet read book one, “Shadowfae“!

We at Fangtastic Fiction thought that this was a crying shame, and as the lovely people at Macmillan have given us an extra copy, we would like to share this with you.

Now, in a shameless plug for Fang on Facebook, we’re going to test the facebook waters and try out the ‘discussion‘ section. We’re complete n00bs when it comes to Facebook, so help us out!

We’ve had such wonderful discussions through competitions in the past that we’ve got to try it again, just this time it’ll be on facebook. I was thinking of something eBook/eReader related…. but I think we’re all pretty much sick of anything with ‘e’ in it. So let’s go with something a little different. There was recently a discussion on twitter accusing Fangbooks of being “book pimps” – now we proudly claim this title, holding heads high, with big smirks, and a few more suggestions… this of course lead to the symptoms of #bookaddiction.

So come join us on our facebook page, and share symptoms of #bookaddiction that loved ones should look out for, or, if you can, advice to those who suffer from this terribly debilitating illness.

The competition is open world wide, but as this has some hot erotic scenes, we’d better make it open only to those over 18 (sorry guys) – so make sure you declare that you’re 18+ in your comments, and as this is supposed to be a plug for our Facebook page, you have to really really like us.  We’ll to a random draw end of october.. so confess away!

….. Only comments made on Facebook are considered to be entries ….

True Blood – Congratulations!

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

My goodness we had some wonderful comments on why people thought there was such growing popularity of paranormal romance.   You know – some of you are really weird, right?!

Some comments were thoughtful, some funny … and not surprisingly there was quite a bit of talking about sex! Appropriate what with True Blood being SOOOO hot!

Sadly there could only be one winner and random.org chose Ingrid!

And thanks again to Time Warner and Orbit/Hatchette for the prizes!

True Blood Competition – FANGtastic!

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

We’re continuing our Sookie-fest and this time we have series one AND series two of True Blood on DVD to giveaway thanks to our friends at Orion/Hachette and Time Warner. If you thought that Charlaine Harris’ books were great (and we do) you should just see what happens when Alan Ball, the king of noir, gets ahold of the plots!

True Blood Series OneDelivering the best of what audiences have come to expect from Creator and Executive Producer Alan Ball (writer of Oscar®-winning Best Picture “American Beauty”, creator of the Emmy® Award-winning HBO® series “Six Feet Under”), TRUE BLOOD is a dark and sexy tale that boldly delves into the heart – and the neck – of the Deep South.

For a chance to win the True Blood DVDs all you need to do is go to our home page http://www.fangtastic.com.au or http://www.fangtastic.co.nz and post a comment on the competition blog.

Firstly these DVDs are R18 and so to enter you must declare that you are over 18.

Then explain you think that there has been such a growth in paranormal romance and urban fantasy books over the past decade? Why are we now seeing so many vampires, werewolves, angels demons, faeries and otherworldly beings? Is it a reflection of increasing danger in our world, a fad, … or what?

True Blood Series TwoThe top ten answers will be selected and ONE of these will then be randomly chosen as the winner! Yep, that’s right, it’s not going to be enough to simply put your name in the hat for this one – you’ll have to think about your answer!

The competition will start on Wednesday night 16 June and run through to Sunday night 20 June at 6pm when the winner will be chosen. And sorry, but the competition is only open in Australia and New Zealand.

So if you want your dose of True Blood – this is the week for it!!

What a fun Sookie Competition we’ve had!

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

We’ve had a huge amount of fun the last four days with our amazing competition for the full set of Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris!  Congratulations Angela – books will be on their way to you shortly!

I hope that you all browsed through the comments being made because some of them were simply terrific. Shamefully *hanging head* I don’t know IT, but with so many of you mentioning it I’d better rectify that quickly.

I completely agree with the comments about the genius of Alan Ball BTW.  His dark humour adds an edginess to True Blood that keeps me addicted.  Series one and two are available now on Blu-ray and DVD and series three will be on Foxtel and Austar in August.

We’ve had so much fun with this Sookie-fest that we’re going to do another FANGTASTIC competition in a week or so.  Make sure you sign up for our newsletter because this is where we’ll be announcing it first! You’re going to love it!

Sookie Stackhouse – FANGtastic Giveaway!!

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Over the years we have delighted in the weird, charming and downright spooky Southern style vampire books from Charlaine Harris.  No doubt quite a few of you have as well – after all, more than 500,000 copies of Sookie Stackhouse have been sold in Australia and New Zealand!

Now we can give you a chance to win a full set of the ten books in this series.  This is the nine existing books that have been re-released by Gollancz/Orion as a tie in to the HBO True Blood TV show, as well as new release of book ten, Dead in the Family.

And the result ? A beautiful collection of Sookie books featuring many of the lead characters in True Blood on the cover.

Dead to the World

True Blood is absolutely brilliant.  Alan Ball, the fabulous director, has taken the base Sookie stories and woven his own warped magic into the mix to give us a solid dose of very black humour in amidst the plots and characters from Charlaine Harris.  Series Two has just been released on Blu-ray and DVD and at 8.30pm on 19 August True Blood: Season Three will start on Showcase for Foxtel and Austar.

True Blood is a classic case where film has been able to add a whole new dimension to the fascination of the well written books on which it is based. It’s not a perfect translation to the screen like some adaptations – rather it is MORE!

There have been quite a few examples over the years of paranormal tales adapted for TV or film, but rarely have they been as successful as Sookie and True Blood.

To enter our competition what we want from you is pretty easy.

Comment on this blog about a paranormal/supernatural based book that had a TV/film adaptation and  what you think either worked well, or didn’t, when it was translated to screen. And, if you’re familiar with Sookie and True Blood, you’re welcome to discuss these.

Each entrant will go into the draw – but if you want your name put in twice all you need to do is tweet about this competition (and tell us so we can look out for your tweet) and then we’ll put your name in twice.

The competition closes on Sunday 6th June at 6pm, Australian EST. The winner will be closen in a ‘blind’ draw. This competition is only open for Australia and New Zealand (sorry folks from elsewhere).

Imagine, either books you have read and loved in gorgeous new covers, or an entire new series to explore and discover!  So come and join our Sookie party!

Sookie Stackhouse + True Blood = absolute magic!

We are the judge, jury and executioner of all competitions run by us. We may use your name, but we will never pass on your details.
