Welcome! |
||
It’s great to see the growing popularity of paranormal romance and urban fantasy genres. We’ve been readers of these books from the days when all we could get were Anne Rice and a few aliens stranded on earth! Thankfully we now have a banquet of choice before us with many fantastic books out there and more coming all the time. However one thing about this popularity is that it has also encouraged a whole range of really BAD books – you know, ones where having a pair of fangs or a buff bod gives the man the right to be an alpha male in the fine tradition of Tarzan claiming his mate! Oh really? I don’t think so! We’ve moved on from the 1950s and you’re more likely to get a whack across the ear if you try any of that ridiculous posturing around here. But at the same time there are so many terrific authors writing fascinating engrossing books that draw us into their worlds and give us a ride of a lifetime. So, check out our reviews and recommendations and we’ll do what we can to help you find your way through the ever increasing range of books out there to find the ones that will make your heart pound and your imagination soar. So welcome to our world – it’s fun, it’s addictive and we love it! |
Authors After Dark ConferenceI often say how much I enjoy Jackie Frank’s novels ... and so I’ve decided to go to her Paranormal Weekend this year. From 23-26 October I’ll be in upstate New York with about 20 paranormal romance authors. I can’t wait! I’ll be sure to send back lots of info and I’ll be collecting goodies to give away to our customers! Rosie@FANG |

Highlights of Recent Releases - the ones we've read and can highly recommend |
|
A Rush of Wings: Adrian PhoenixThis is a wonderful debut novel – part FBI serial killer mystery and part vampire urban fantasy – and completely tough and unrelenting in its pace and action. Dante is initially annoying but intriguing and ultimately claims your interest completely – while Heather makes for a believable investigator caught in conspiracies she could never have imagined. There are some rough edges expected in a debut novel, but this is obviously the start of a powerful and fascinating new urban fantasy suspense series. |

Through the Veil: Shiloh WalkerFrom the very beginning this book had me hooked. The science fiction elements marry well with the paranormal romance themes to give us an action packed and clever take on a world on the verge of destruction and the band of warriors who are the last line of defense. Typical of Shiloh Walker, there is a lot of steamy sex, but thankfully the storyline and the worlds she has created balance this out. |

Rapture: Jacquelyn FrankThe name says it all! This second book of the Shadowdwellers series is even better than book one: Ecstasy. The politics, shifting alliances, anonymous attacks and betrayals all bring a heightened tension to the story that is already incredible with it’s two main characters, ex slave Daenaira (do NOT piss her off!) facing off against Magnus, the Shadowdweller’s High Priest. This series just gets better and better. But, this book also has the longest sex scene I’ve ever read – give it it’s own chapter and be done with it! Whew! |

ANGEL’s Blood: Nalini Singh I love the books that Nalini Singh gives us. Without fail we get strong women, flowing dialogue, complicated plot twists and very good writing. ANGEL’s Blood delivers this and a whole lot more! This is a compelling trek into the world of the absolutely powerful and the lengths they will go to maintain that power. Five stars from me! |

Coyote’s Mate: Lora LeighI think that either you love Lora Leigh – or you’re mad (oops sorry!) I remember reading my first of her Breed books and being shocked by the suffering of her characters, the emotional connection I felt to the story – and a little taken aback at the eroticism in the book (this was a few years ago and my first Lora Leigh, so give me a break!) Coyote’s Mate is a wonderful addition to this fascinating and tough world – and with Bengal’s Heart due out soon, I am happy happy happy! |

Fangs But No Fangs: Kathy LoveAfter the intensity of some of the good books out there it’s a delight to sit back and enjoy another book in Kathy Love’s Immortality Bites series. This is a book that makes you grab for the chocolate while settling in for a good old fun read. |

Seduce the Darkness: Gena ShowalterThe next adventures of Alien Investigation and Removal gives us the unrepentantly arrogant Devyn with his confidence in his amazing attraction and sexual prowess - and Bride,the woman who brings him down! Oh this is such fun! And thankfully at the end Devyn is still as much of a rogue as ever. This sounds like light fluff but actually there’s also a great blend of action, emotional depth and interesting danger. |

Reviews |
Karen Chance – an author we love – most times! If we think of gritty Urban Fantasy – odds are we’ll hold up Karen Chance as an icon for the genre. Her Cassandra Palmer series has all the elements of intelligent writing, complex social and political structures, dangerous threats, betrayals, battles against evil – plus a cast of paranormal beings that defies a short description. There’s more sexual tension than actual romance, because nothing in this world is easy! But Cassandra is believably kick-ass while still someone you can feel a connection to. Karen Chance’s writing is lyrical, graphic, reflective ... and very well done. |

Other News and Nibbles |
|
News from Patricia BriggsPatricia Briggs has announced that after completing Silver Borne (the 5th Mercy Thompson due mid 2010), she’s going to take a break from the next Alpha and Omega novel. Instead she'll begin editing her first-ever book, Masques. Those of you searching for this book know it's hard to find, and prices are outrageous. It also has a number of little problems that mark it as a first book — the sort of thing that authors always want to fix. ACE is going to re-publish it, and is giving Patty the opportunity to re-work it. But wait, there's more! Masques has an unpublished sequel, Wolfsbane. Patty's also going to rework that book, and bring it into print at long last. Hopefully, this will not only result in three books getting published next year, it should also give Patty a jump on writing the next urban fantasy, so she can get back on a proper delivery schedule. Unfortunately, it also means that there won't be an Alpha and Omega novel next year.*sob* |
